Former Community Media Association Chair Dom Chambers is to host the inaugural Community Radio Awards.
The event is taking place on the 10th September at Birmingham City University aiming to celebrate, champion and promote the work of community radio throughout the UK.
Organisers have announced 235 nominations have been received for 16 categories, and more details are available at CommunityRadioAwards.co.uk
Dom, who served on the CMA council for five years, runs Somer Valley FM in Somerset. He presents the Third Sector Show on inRadio and chairs the Radio Academy’s Affiliated Partners group.
He says: “I am delighted to be hosting the first community radio awards. This is not about winners and losers but an opportunity to showcase the fantastic work achieved on an hourly basis by community broadcasters in the UK. I first encouraged Martin to develop his ideas with the support of the CMA over two years ago so it is wonderful to see his efforts come to fruition.
“I very much look forward to working with him on what I know will be a great celebration.”
Organisers hope that many people will come straight from the Community Media Conference. The evening will begin with a drinks reception sponsored by PPL and PRS for Music. The formal awards will start at 7pm with a 10pm finish and an after show party planned at a local bar.
The Chair and organiser of the Awards, Martin Steers says “I am really looking forward to the ceremony and the culmination of years of work on the awards. It’s been wonderful to have received so many entries and to see so much engagement from the sector in the first year of the awards. It’s great to have Dom come on board as our Master of Ceremonies and I look forward to working with him on the night to bring a real sense of celebration and accomplishment to all those present and to the sector as a whole.”
