Radio X safe as Radio Exe drops trademark case

Exeter-based Radio Exe has withdrawn its opposition against Global using the name Radio X.

RadioToday was first to report in November, shortly after Global rebranded XFM as Radio X, that an unknown body had opposed the registration of Radio X as a trademark with the IPO in four different categories.

The oppositions were for the image/logo and name, including similar sounding names, as Radio Exe.

The station now confirms to RadioToday it was responsible for the trade mark case, but the two companies have agreed to co-exist.

Radio Exe is now locally owned and operated after Celador sold its 40% shareholding to Exe Broadcasting.
