Helen Boaden to speak at Radio Festival 2016

Helen Boaden, the BBC’s Director of Radio is confirmed to speak at this year’s Radio Festival, joining the Creative Economies session debating the BBC’s Compete or Compare initiative.


Hosted by Radiocentre’s CEO Siobhan Kenny, the session will consider the benefits and challenges of more players delivering original content, which, with the BBC’s ‘Compete or Compare’ proposal opening up BBC Radio hours to indie competition.

Boaden will be joined by Phil Critchlow, founder and CEO of TBI Media and Chairman of Radio Independents Group and Steve Carsey from Audible, who will talk about the growing audio market.


Also, David Baddiel and Bob Mortimer will join this year’s event, taking place on September 26th at the British Library, to share their thoughts whether radio takes enough risks?

Baddiel and Mortimer will be joined by vlogger Hannah Witton, who has her own radio show on FUBAR. The session will be hosted by Absolute Radio’s Geoff Lloyd.

BBC Radio 4’s Nick Robinson, approaching his first anniversary on the Today programme, will be interviewed by LBC presenter Shelagh Fogarty.

Finally, Deacon Blue, whose lead singer Ricky Ross hosts a show on BBC Radio Scotland, will open the evening drinks reception and after-show party with a live, acoustic set.
