The Sunday Hour this week on BBC Radio 2 was more like the Sunday Half Hour after the station went to emergency back-up for 30 minutes.
It happened at 6am on Sunday, 4th Dec, when Diane Louise Jordan was scheduled to play an hour of uplifting spiritual music with hymns, gospel and choral classics. Instead the station was playing Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson, Shake it Off by Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing In the Dark, Lukas Graham’s 7 Years, David Bowie’s Modern Love and Yes, Owner of a Lonely Heart. Plus the occasional “we’re having technical problems” messages.
On-air, the back-up audio kicked in instead of the news at 6am, until part 2 of the show appeared just after 6.30am. The show was pre-recorded so no mention was made of the fail.
The BBC told RadioToday.co.uk: “We experienced a technical error which led to the emergency back-up tape playing out. Normal service resumed within a short time.”
