The charity behind Stockport community radio station Pure 107.8FM says it will be handing its licence back to Ofcom if nobody else comes forward to run it.
Pure Innovations wants local organisations to step in to keep the station going, saying: “Unless new partners can be found before the end of the football season, the license will be handed back to Ofcom and Pure 107.8FM will go off the air”.
Pure Innovations says it has reluctantly taken the decision. “Austerity measures have affected the income the charity receives to run projects for disadvantaged and disabled people, meaning it can no longer cover the radio station’s running costs”.
Pure Radio launched full-time in September 2006 and in addition to local programmes, it provides live commentary of every Stockport County match, both home and away.
Pure Innovations a not-for-profit organisation that employs people from disadvantaged backgrounds to build the skills and confidence to get back into employment.
Chief Executive Louise Parrott-Bates said every effort’s being made to find an alternative solution to closing the radio station.
