BBC Radio 1 has revealed the latest Top 10 singles chart – with nine of the places taken by Ed Sheeran.
His new album, which received an unprecedented amount of airplay and coverage by radio stations all over the UK in the last few weeks, became the fastest-selling album ever by a male artist.
Ed also currently holds 16 places on this week’s top 20.
Speaking to Greg James on Radio 1’s Official Chart, he said: “I never expected to have nine songs in the top 10 ever in my life so yeah, I don’t know, something’s gone wrong. But I’m definitely very, very happy about it.”
The third album, called Divide, shifted 672,000 this week, giving Ed the highest opening week album sales in Official Chart history for a male artist and the third fastest-seller ever. Only Adele’s 25 (800,000) and Oasis’ Be Here Now (696,000) shifted more copies across their first seven days of release.
