Former BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2 presenter Janice Long is to host a brand new weeknight programme on BBC Radio Wales.
Janice will present her show live from BBC Wales’ studio in Wrexham between 7pm – 10pm, Monday to Thursday. Produced in-house, the slot will launch on 22nd May, and will feature live sessions and provide a platform for Welsh artists.
Ahead of joining BBC Radio Wales, Janice will be sitting in for Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 from 10 – 13 April between 8pm and 10pm. She will also be presenting two weeks of breakfast on BBC Radio Merseyside this August as part of their 50th birthday celebrations.
Janice said: “I can’t wait to get started on BBC Radio Wales. The Welsh music scene has always been strong. I’m really looking forward to supporting and showcasing more artists on this new show.”
In other schedule changes, Wales Today and X-Ray presenter Lucy Owen will host a show on Saturday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm during May and June, until presenter, producer and former West End star Connie Fisher takes the helm during July and August.
Saturday early evenings between 4pm – 7pm will see BBC Asian Network’s Shazia Awan join the station for 3 hours of topical discussion.
The changes are the first made by the new Editor of BBC Radio Wales, Colin Paterson. He said: “This is a significant move for the station. Being able to attract presenters of this quality is a real coup, along with our biggest commitment to programmes from North Wales in over a decade. I’m thrilled that Janice has chosen BBC Radio Wales as her next station to showcase her knowledge and passion for music.”
