talkSPORT signs exclusive deal for EFL rights

talkSPORT will have more live exclusive English football than 5 live next season after a deal with the English Football League.

The network has secured exclusive radio rights to the Sky Bet EFL Championship, League One and League Two for the next three seasons.

The deal means talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2 will have more exclusive English football than any other UK broadcaster, with mote than 220 games across the EFL’s three divisions, the Carabao Cup, the Checkatrade Trophy, EFL play-offs and Premier League in total. The talkSPORT network also covers the Champions League, Europa League, the FA Cup, international football, LaLiga, Copa Del Rey and will have commentary of every game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Scott Taunton, CEO of talkSPORT’s owner The Wireless Group, said: “We can’t wait to bring our award-winning football coverage to the EFL. This deal means we will broadcast more than 500 games of football a season across talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2, covering more competitions than anyone else. We are delighted to support the EFL clubs and promise our coverage will go far beyond the matches themselves – bringing fans closer to the managers and players week in, week out.”

This is the first major deal signed by the Wireless Group since the acquisition by News UK in September 2016.
