Peter Young aka PY has stepped down from regular broadcasting after 27 years playing jazz and soul on Jazz FM due to ill health.
Jazz FM’s Content Director Nick Pitts confirmed the move to RadioToday, saying: ““We are sad and sorry that after nearly 30 years, PY has had to step away from the mic and his beloved CD players due to his health and will miss his infectious and unique style of broadcasting.
“That said, we look forward to having him back to present some one-off specials when his health allows. In the meantime, I welcome this opportunity to introduce fresh voices to what we do best – broadcasting great jazz, soul and blues.”
The new voices are Tony Minvielle, Tim Garcia and Anne Frankenstein who are joining the weekend schedule.
Tony will bring his knowledge of Jazz, Nu-Jazz, Soul and Eclectic Grooves to Sunday night/Monday morning while both Anne and Tim – who are both experienced live DJs, but new to broadcast radio – will bring their presenting styles to weekend afternoons and Friday night/Saturday morning respectively.
Mark Walker will also present a sixth edition of Dinner Jazz on Saturday evenings, while John Osborne will host a new early evening show called Saturday Soul.
Jazz FM’s Content Director Nick Pitts says: “With their passion for music and currency with the UK jazz and soul scenes Anne, Tony and Tim are in good company alongside Jez Nelson, Helen Mayhew, David Freeman, Jeff Young and Sarah Ward; we have the perfect line-up for musical discovery on the station.”
