A new digital radio station will launch this weekend on the Herts, Beds and Bucks DAB multiplex.
The Beat, operated by the people behind community station MKFM in Milton Keynes, says the station will pride itself on ‘playing all the hits’ and will provide bespoke local news, travel, weather and What’s On information for each of the areas it serves.
It will also be added to the Norwich mux on July 22nd and discussions are taking place with several other local multiplexes around the UK to carry new localised versions of the service.
Ex-Heart and BRMB presenter Mikey Faulkner is set to host Breakfast and former Capital FM and Heart host Chris Brooks hosting Daytimes.
At the weekend, Pat Sharp will playing All The Hits on Saturday afternoons with Mikey Faulkner counting down the top 40 on The Beat Chart each Sunday afternoon.
Darren Dorrington, Managing Director at The Beat said: “We’ve been working hard over the last six months to prepare for this launch and we’re really excited for the big launch on Saturday 8th July. The best thing about The Beat is that we’re going to be able to provide local news and information for each of the areas we cover.
“Having been involved with running MKFM for a number of years, I can’t wait to build upon its success locally across a number of new towns and cities. The Beat has a dedicated management team to maximise the opportunity, whilst the dedicated MKFM team will ensure the station continues its success in supporting the community in Milton Keynes.
“At a time when other broadcasters are cutting local content, I’m proud that The Beat will deliver bespoke local content for each of the areas it serves.
“We’ll be announcing some additional locations for The Beat in due course.”
The Beat is not connected with the London station of the same name, broadcasting on 103.6FM from Harlesden.
