BBC Radio 1 is putting its Rap Show host and 1Xtra Drivetime presenter Charlie Sloth on a new late night entertainment show from 9pm till 11pm weekdays.
The show will be broadcast on both BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra from November 6th.
Charlie Sloth says: “I’m honoured to be given such a huge opportunity to do something daring, exciting and to really push the boundaries in a landscape where the way people consume content is forever changing. What will the show be you ask…? One word… Sick!!! I’m gassed!”
Ben Cooper, Controller, Radio 1, 1Xtra and Asian Network says: “I’m so excited about this show as there will be nothing like it anywhere else on radio, TV or online. This is taking inspiration from ‘Yo! MTV Raps’, ‘The Word’ and James Corden, and making something that represents young culture in the U.K. today. It will make you go to bed with a smile.”
Before joining the BBC, Charlie was prominent on London pirate radio stations such as RawFM, Freek FM, Deja Vu FM and Raw Mission FM.
In other schedule changes on Radio 1, a new daytime show ‘Life Hacks’ will feature elements of Radio 1’s Surgery, and Radio 1 documentaries – broadcast Sundays, 4pm-7pm – and hosted by Cel Spellman and Katie Thistleton.
Radio 1 will also create a range of new daring, infectious and honest comedy and entertainment podcasts, each with a different topic and format, designed primarily as a digital offer. As well as being downloadable via the Radio 1 website and BBC iPlayer Radio app, the three new podcasts a week will be broadcast on Radio 1 Wednesday-Friday, 3am-4am, containing all original content.
Danny Howard will host a new Friday evening show (11pm-1am), with a remit of playing fresh, hard-core, underground dance music whilst Kan D Man and DJ Limelight will join the station to host a weekly Asian Beats show, Sundays, 1am-3am.
