BBC Radio Sheffield is looking for Common, and uncommon, People to help celebrate their 50th birthday.
To mark the occasion, the station will be remaking a South Yorkshire anthem – Pulp’s Common People.
A community choir, made up of singers from across the region, is recording a specially arranged version of the 1990s song. The BBC Radio Sheffield presenters will then be joined by members of the public to make a music video to accompany the new song.
Filming will take place on Sunday October 22nd in Sheffield. The finale to the film will involve a large crowd scene and the station would love as many as listeners as possible to be involved.
Pulp’s drummer, Nick Banks, has added his support to the project: “It’s absolutely brilliant that BBC Radio Sheffield has chosen one of our songs for their 50th birthday celebrations. There’s a lot of South Yorkshire spirit and attitude in Common People that still resonates today. I can’t wait to see the finished film!”
Katrina Bunker, Managing Editor for BBC Radio Sheffield, said: “Pulp are such a big part of Sheffield’s musical history and the whole team at BBC Radio Sheffield are really excited about doing our own version of one of their best songs. Our film will be a new take on Common People, and will be a celebration of South Yorkshire. It will be great fun for our team and a terrific experience for all the extras that join us for filming.”
