Planet Rock is celebrating being 18 years old this week by giving away £18,000 to one listener.
The station also planned a number of special on-air surprises. They’ve dug deep into the rock archives to play the biggest nostalgic clips every hour from the most memorable moments of the last 18 years, featuring Mick Jagger, Brian May and Brian Johnson. Rock legends and friends of the station such as Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, Bill Bailey and Rick Wakeman gave out their own unique birthday messages.
Plus the opening piece of audio from the first ever show was rebroadcast nearly two decades later.
Ric Blaxill, Content Director of Planet Rock is proud the station is celebrating such a big birthday; “I can’t believe Planet Rock is turning 18, there have been so many amazing moments from having Alice Cooper, Joe Elliot and Brian Johnson on as presenters to broadcasting live from Jimi Hendrix’s London home and covering the launch of the Pink Floyd V&A exhibition. It’s been a pleasure to be the home of rock for such a long time.”
