Simon Clarke, afternoon presenter at Wave 105, is leaving the Bauer station after more than a decade.

He’s off to present early breakfast on Southampton-based BBC Radio Solent from 5am till 6.30am weekdays.

He told RadioToday: “I’ve had an amazing time at Wave and made some great friendships on and off the air but the time is right for a new challenge. Getting up at 4am is certainly going to be one but I’m really looking forward to becoming part of the morning routine for the BBC Radio Solent’s early risers.”

Sarah Miller, Editor BBC Radio Solent is delighted Simon is making the move to the station: “Simon will be a great asset to BBC Radio Solent waking up the south with our first show of the day. He loves radio, loves the south and his warm personality will provide listeners with a great start to their day.”

Simon started his career in Northampton at 16 volunteering for the local Hospital radio station. While at college he became involved in a student radio show on Northants Radio and passed on the opportunity to go to university in favour of experience presenting cover on The Chiltern Network.

He went to host for afternoons at Radio Aire in 1995 and two years later headed south and spent a decade on air at various stations in the West Midlands – Heart, Mercia and BRMB – before making a lifestyle choice to relocate to the south and join Wave 105 where he hosted the afternoon show for 10 years.

Simon will be on air from Monday 9th April at 5am.
