Fred Dinenage, who has been broadcasting in and around the South of England for almost 60 years, is joining BBC Radio Solent.

He’ll host Saturday afternoons during the summer season, from 2pm till 6pm each week.

The signing was announced on-air at BBC Radio Solent, which you can hear, here.

Fred started his career on television in 1964 on a networked children’s programme, and went on to host news and magazine programmes and features.

He also presented national television shows including How, How 2 and Tell The Truth.

In December 2021, after 38 years as a news anchor on ITV’s regional news in the South, he retired from broadcasting.
